This section creates the base width of your washcloth.

    1. Make a slip knot.
    2. Using your 5.0 mm hook, chain 31 stitches.
    3. Be careful not to twist the foundation chain.
    4. Count your chains to make sure you have 31 ch before beginning Row 1.

Pro Tip: Count every chain before starting Row 1—it saves a lot of frustration later.

    3. Add the Simple Border — crochet

The border gives the washcloth a polished finish.

    1. Without fastening off, work 1 sc evenly around all four sides.
    2. Place 3 sc in each corner to help the fabric lie flat.
    3. Continue until you return to the starting point.
    4. Join with a sl st to the first stitch.

Pro Tip: Evenly spaced border stitches make your finished project look much more professional.

    4. Finish and Weave in the Ends

This final step prepares your washcloth for everyday use.

    1. FO, leaving a 6-inch (15 cm) yarn tail.
    2. Thread the tail onto your yarn needle.
    3. Weave the yarn securely through several stitches on the WS.
    4. Trim any excess yarn.
    5. Lightly wet block your washcloth to approximately 8 x 8 inches (20 x 20 cm) if desired.

Pro Tip: Cotton yarn softens beautifully after the first wash, making the texture even more enjoyable.

    What are crochet stitches patterns?

Crochet stitches patterns are combinations of basic stitches arranged in a repeated sequence to create unique textures and designs. They range from simple beginner repeats to intricate lace and decorative motifs.

How can beginners practice crochet stitches patterns?

Small projects like washcloths, dishcloths, and scarves are excellent practice pieces because they repeat the same stitch sequence many times. They’re also a great way to learn crochet stitches patterns free without committing to a large project.

Why should I use cotton yarn for this pattern?

100% cotton yarn absorbs water well, holds its shape, and becomes softer with use. It’s the ideal choice for washcloths and works wonderfully with crochet stitches patterns for blankets and other textured home décor projects where stitch definition really shines.
